A RICH PERSON SAVOYARD AND EUROPEAN HISTORY

abity since Antiquity, Ripaille was, as of the 13th century an hunting ground of the Counts de Savoie before becoming, as from the 14th century, their residence preferred. In 1434, Amédée VIII, first Duke of Savoy and future pope, built the Castle, which then counted 7 turns, of which there remain only 4 today. Though conceived like a religious retirement for large lords, Ripaille was in the center of the very brilliant civilization which Savoy of this time knew, then an important European state. In particular of famous writers, musicians and miniaturists met there princes, kings and even an emperor, being restored with the succulent receipts of Chiquart Master, cook of Amédée VIII, and drinking wine of Feast already. After the wars of the Reform, and by the intervention of Saint François the Dirty ones, Ripaille became for two centuries chartreuse, protected from the world by its large walls. After the French revolution, the unit was sold to the General Deceived, originating in Evian, which put back Napoleonean wars there.

N the 1892 site, then parcelled out and ruins some, was reconstituted and restored by Engel-Large Frederic, of Mulhouse, owner of textile factories DMC. With the assistance of Charles Schulé, one of the architects of the World Fair of Paris of 1889, and by a work which lasted more than 10 years, Ripaille took the aspect which it has today. When that was possible the buildings were restored in their old state, a church ever finished of the 18th century - which hid the castle and the Tooth of Oche - was replaced by a garden with the Frenchwoman and the castle itself which fell in ruin was renovated in a remarkable combination of medieval style and Art nouveau. This building besides was designed like the ECRIN of the fabulous collection of craft industry and works of art which had constituted Engel-Large. Its descendants, Necker-Engel, of the family of the Minister for Finance of Louis XVI, are always owners of most of Feast. In 1976 Mrs Harold Necker, helped of the public authorities, created the Foundation Feast to preserve and emphasize this inheritance.
